Bishop-Parker Furniture Co. was founded in 1923 by two young men, M.B. Bishop and C.D. Parker. The store’s first home was on Monroe Street in downtown Montgomery, AL . Although both men had years of furniture business experience already, the fledgling business had a humble beginning and the Great Depression was looming around the corner. Through hard work and determination, our founders not only survived but grew the store and, in 1933, moved to a much larger, finer location on Commerce Street. Our home for nearly 50 years, thousands of our past and current customers fondly remember this site as where they purchased their first or favorite home furnishings. That building is now well known as the entrance to the popular downtown Alley Station.
In any extended family, there are sure to be many great moments and memories involving a cast of colorful characters. After 95 years, hundreds of employees and thousands of customers, we have quite a few ourselves! We often joke someone could write an entertaining book about all our collective experiences. But even though we at Bishop-Parker are steeped in tradition, we certainly do not live in the past. We are more inspired than ever to bring you the most up-to-date style furnishings – at the best price – backed up with quality service only a multi-generational, local business can provide.
